Evald Nielsen, 1905 - 1931?

the 925-1000 entry for Evald Nielsen, Danish Makers' Marks,

shows him activ from 1905 through 1931. Evald Nielsen is said to have passed away on May 12, 1958. What happened in 1931 that stopped his activities?

Hmmm...Maybe it is just a case of conflicting sources for this info? The Wikipedia entry has Nielsen working up until his death. Although not always the most credible resource, Wikipedia has cited a reference. The entry gives an overview of the history of the firm. The 1930s appear to have been a very active time for Nielsen. The company still exists in name only today, because the Nielsen family successors sold the rights to the name in 2006.

I guess something must have happening in 1931, but I've no idea what.

today I had a look into the reference book cited by Wikipedia.

" EN - SOLIST I SØLV: En biografi om sølvsmeden Evald Nielsen" by Chr. Rimestad, 2010.

On the page 104 the author describes the financial success of Evald Nielsen in the 20ies despite the economic depressions of that time and that this success continued through the following decades. I couldn't find any hint to personal or economical problems that might had made him retire from his business. So I am quite curious, what is the conflicting source of the information that the silversmith Evald Nielsen stopped his activities in 1931?
To enlighten the topic a mark from 1939.

I'm afraid I've no idea of the original source that suggested 1931 as an end year.

Hello Trev.,

Yesterday I had a contact to Allan Nobel Andreasson because on his website on Danish silver marks I found the same entry as on 925-1000: Evald Nielsen 1905-1931. Perhaps this is the contradicting source. Here is what he posted to me:

"The Danish register for silver marks made by the Danish government is not perfect.
About 1930-1937 the register is a mesh (government chance the way to control it, and it failed )"

Allan got my pictures of the 1939 Evald Nielsen marks and he will put them on his website. So the entry "1931" may have the chance to find a correct substitute.
