Need some help with an unusual spoon

Postby dingo » Thu Aug 10, 2017 9:12 am

Can anyone think of any relevance to this spoon design or is it just decorative.
Spoon dates to around 1870 I think? Silver with no hallmark.

Thank you.

Interesting. A battleship, a caduceus, and an anchor...That's a combination I would never dream of being associated with hope, faith, and Christianity.
Learn something new everyday! Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Thought to recognize the XP symbol but indeed could be caduceus.
Naval/Battle ship to protect (trade routes)
Caduceus, the staff is also a symbol of Hermes, the Greek God of Commerce.

The Anchor; Christians adopted the anchor as a symbol of hope.
