Can I trust "Sterling Weighted" w/o mfg mark?

Postby DianaGaleM » Sat Aug 24, 2013 2:04 am

I have a pie/cake server that is stamped "STAINLESS" on the blade and "Sterling Weighted" on the handle, and that's all. Without a manufacturer's mark, can I trust that it is really sterling?

One thing that makes me doubtful is that the piece seems not to be very good quality, as evidenced by the seam down the side of the handle.

Wouldn't a piece of Sterling be made with more care?

How interesting, and certainly a plausible explanation. I can see a supermarket selling a different piece each week for a discount with some purchase, as my market is doing right now with a set of dishes. And I do remember, back in the '50s and '60s, when gas stations really were "service" stations, they had the same kind of "premium" offers. My Mom got a great set of steak knives from buying Shell gasoline! Wow, those days are long gone...
