I just picked up this terrific Marius Hammer pin with a gargoyle and snakes and have questions:
First- I have never seen anything like it by Marius Hammer. Has anyone seen something similar?
Second- it appears that perhaps the black coloring throughout is perhaps original to the piece, but I am unsure. Is there such thing as a 'black wash'? I know about the gold wash that was done on these brooches. The black does not cover all of the brooch, just parts of it. Perhaps the black has worn off in parts? I don't think this is patina. Thoughts anyone on how I can restore or clean this piece?
