G.B. Titus - Serving Spoon

Postby tchest » Sun Dec 09, 2012 7:23 pm

Does anyone have any information on "G.B. Titus" maker - this is on a coin silver serving spoon marked "STANDARD" in block letters (within squares) after the Maker name "G.B. TITUS"

The spoon design looks late early to mid 19th century - I've heard of a silversmith "J. TITUS" (Philadelphia, PA, USA) but I havent heard of "G.B. TITUS" so any info would be appreciated as to location of maker, date/period.

George Barnet Titus, son of the J(ames) Titus you reference. He was, like his father, a watchmaker and jeweler in Easton PA. He took over his father's shop in 1848 and died in 1867.

Thank you for the information.

Interesting to find out this maker was from Easton, PA. This particular spoon has travelled only a few miles from it's point of origination over 150 years ago!!
