Good evening. Excellence experts, tell me please: who punch the mark "half moon and a crown " on silver items? The maker or state assay office? Best reg..
Many thanks for answers. If maker punches the mark of " half moon and a crown", If it is a part of maker's mark, what assay office does?)) Other question, please. What interval (+/-) of silver thinness is supposed in German silver 800?
To my knowledge; Crown and Crescent Moon national standard mark for overall minimum 800 fineness and higher fineness indicated with; 835, 900, 925 or 935. Indications only and not guaranteed by the national standard mark because the national standard mark guarantees only a minimum of 800 fineness.
on January 1st 1888 for whole Germany standard marks were introduced. From this time on objects are marked like the following: 1) mark of the registered maker 2) fineness in numbers (1/1000) 3) crown and crescent moon (the marking was done by the maker himself if the silver content was higher than 800/1000)
