Anyone know of Arnold Bros?

Postby jilluphill » Sat Aug 21, 2010 10:05 am

I am new to collecting sterling and my friend gave me a gorgeous heavy sterling spoon by Arnold Bros. I did a little research and could not find anything on them. I would appreciate any help to identify this beautiful piece further. Thanks so much.

Thomas Arnold, Newport, RI is maybe a guide to Arnold Bros?

Hello

Welcome to the Forum.

If you look here: http://www.925-1000.com/americansilver_A2.html there you would find a Thomas Arnold (* 1739, + 1828), in Newport, RI; active ca. 1751-1828. If you hold in mind Thomas Arnold 77 year of professional practice - Arnold Bros. couldn't be successor in the same profession and commercial area?

Similarities, also if they are "nearly" similar, aren't always a goal! But it could maybe a guide for further search.

By the way, their name sounds to be of German origin - to have had German ancestor was often a kind of warranty in inventively, and works perfection too.

Kind regards silverport

I suspect your spoons were retailed by the Arnold Bros, William A and Homer S who were in business together in the Columbus, Ohio area in the third quarter of the nineteenth century and very early in the twentieth century. A picture of these spoons could be a big help in identifying the maker or manufacturer.
