Tardy International Hallmarks on Silver 1985 5th edition English language (2005 reprint)
Tardy page 183: Where to put trade-marks, counter marks and maker’s marks (regulations published on 30-12-1679). …. Page 185 ….All small objects weighing less than 1 ½ ounces, such as rattles, seals, stamps, fly or watch cases, crosses, shoe buckles or other buckles, which can be marked without damage, are stamped with the maker’s mark. All articles of smooth gold weighing one ounce or less are marked and countermarked.
I could interpret …small objects less than 1 ½ ounces are stamped with maker’s mark only and do not need to be marked and countermarked? At the other hand gold one ounce or less are marked and countermarked but may be without maker’s mark.
Or should Tardy read … small objects less than 1 ½ ounces are stamped with maker’s mark and are marked and countermarked?
I appreciate your feedback.
