English trans. for the German mark called a"Tremulierst

Is there an English equililent for the German Tremulierstrich, which ich jagged mark put on antique silver. It is apparently a mark which guarantees that the silver was tested twice.

It is a rather unsightly and long jagged mark and I wonder why they couldn't come up with a more elegant one.

According to "The Collector's Dictionary of the Silver and Gold of Great Britain and North America" by Michael Clayton (rev. ed. 1985), in Britain the shaved silver pieces are called the diet and kept in the diet-box. He makes no reference to the mark left behind by the removal of the diet, but diet mark would seem sensible.

I have always known this as an "assay scrape". If I wanted to be more descriptive I would expand this to "zig-zag assay scrape".
