Family crest on a large jug

Hi,

Have a large jug with the height of 29 cm. The jug is made by the maker AGP in London in 1859-60.

Interested to find out to whom this family crest belongs, also didn't find the maker which would also be nice to know. The crest states the well known phrase 'Finis Coronat Opus'.

Hi Juke*,

I find no maker with that mark registered at London at this time. It is perhaps an overstrike by others or there are more, unseen, letters to the mark.

According to 'Elvin's Mottoes Revised' , the motto belongs to Baker, of Ashcombe, bt. and the Barnet, Bayley and Crosthwaite families.

Hi!

Thanks for the info of the family crest, much appreciated!

Probably an over struck as you mentioned, it is always interesting that another firm considered it acceptable to over struck another masters mark just due to the sales by them.

I have previously seen this AGP mark with London hallmarks dated 1857 to 1867. It may be an unregistered mark of Augustus George Piesse whose registered mark is A.G.P (stops between letters, serif type face).

Thanks for the additional info! Then it's most likely him and not an over struck.
