Garrards Georgian sterling chamberstick - date?

I can't believe my good luck if I am reading these marks correctly as 1824. Can someone confirm for me? The weight of this is close to 1 lb! What does the engraving mean if anything? Thanks!

Hi Adam,

All you hoped for is correct, well, it is Christmas after all!

Robert Garrard II, and assayed at London in 1824.

The engraving is the family crest of a former owner. I'll move the topic to the Family Crest section of the forum to see if we can find further information regarding this interesting piece.

1lb.--Holy Cow!! Got a c. 1900 tray 2 years back topped out 'round 14 troy. Curious...is the weight in this concentrated in handle and hood for durability, or in base for stability?
As to the girl...do you think comb in hair and holding tambourine ( implying Spanish Familial roots?) or rolled hair waving salver-like object?

My latest group of silver is actually from my grandparents. It's been put away for a long time and I am finally getting around to opening it. Found some nice surprises in there! Very fortunate!

The weight is concentrated in the base.

Lovely item. The engraving is a crest, which is the top part of a coat of arms. It also shows the coronet of an earl. It seems to me that this is the crest of KEITH, the Earls of Kintore, in the peerage of Scotland. Kind regards.
