Bear's Paw Crest

Postby dognose » Sat Feb 14, 2015 2:06 pm

Hi,

An interesting family crest, it appears to be a bear's paw grasping a key:

Noted on a set of forks made by Richard Crossley and assayed at London in 1800.

Any thoughts appreciated.

A paw or a gamb? A bear or a lion? I've only come up with MELVETON with a lion's paw Gules and key Azure from Burke's. Fairbairn's has lion's gamb with the same tinctures.
