Not sure what you mean of: "escutcheon of pretense" could it mean "Not genuine"?
I am really enjoy to know the Symbol/Mark/Brand behind all those vintage items, it's like discovering a Mystery.
Say If this item's are not "genuine" I am still happy to know the History of the Family Symbol!
