Yes, a better picture would help. I can see that it is probably for Baron de Dunstanville and Basset. The first quarter is Bassett, the second is de Dunstanville, and the third is Fitzhenry. However I cannot see the fourth and it looks like there may be an escutcheon of pretense. The motto is Pro rege et populo. Kind regards. Merry Christmas!

Not sure what you mean of: "escutcheon of pretense" could it mean "Not genuine"?

I am really enjoy to know the Symbol/Mark/Brand behind all those vintage items, it's like discovering a Mystery.
Say If this item's are not "genuine" I am still happy to know the History of the Family Symbol!

No, no this is genuine sterling and a genuine coat of arms. An escutcheon of pretense is a small shield placed in the center of the larger shield, usually for the gentlemen's wife who was an heiress in her own right. Sometimes they would be placed side to side, called impalement. If you were Lord Drowning-in-NewMoney and married Lady Land-&-OldCastles, you would not want to lose her prestigious lineage. Many of the sterling pieces belong to her dowry and bear "his & hers" coat of arms. Sometimes it was written into letters patent that the new arms should be marshalled that way. Heraldry can be complicated. Kind regards.

I have just reread my last post and I should clarify that I don't know if it is genuine sterling. We never discussed that. It IS a genuine coat of arms. Cheers.
