Crest on Old Shefield Plate

Post by TallMAGuy »

We recently acquired some silver from my wife's departed mother and two pieces have engraved initials and a family crest picture which we know nothing about. The photos are below and we would appreciate any help we might get to identify it.

According to The British Herald it is for SHIPMAN of Nottinghamshire. It is blazoned: a leopard sejant Argent, spotted Sable, reposing the dexter paw on a ship's rudder. That is to say a silver leopard sitting with black spots, resting his right paw on a ship's rudder. The monogram appears to be a match. Kind regards.
