Unknown Russian crest and marks

Postby zilverik » Tue Aug 23, 2011 4:24 am

Hi,

This is a large deep Russian plate with a family crest. Anyone knows the crest? And maybe the marks as well?
As for the marks under the plate in a row, I read (a double struck and hard to read) 1861 and I.B. in cyrillic = I.W unidentified master? (nr 1209, but then without a second dot, Verzeichnis der Russischen Gold- und Silbermarken), an unidentified ancre, the name Malez.

Regards,

Zilverik

Hi,

So this is Poland, Warszawa, Mailcz, in the Russian Period 1861. Than the question of the Family Crest is still there. A Warschau family?

Hi Oel,

I found this topic:
viewtopic.php?f=46&t=24708

Now I hope this deep plate isn't a fake as a lot of other of objects with the "Malcz" name.

No this is not a fake as far as I can see, compare it with the marks in the showed links. This is correct marking. It is Karol Malcz 1855-1867 and the assayer IB (Latin letters) is Ian Biedgunowski 1850-1865 in Warszaw. The anchor is Malcz's trade mark. Polish silver from the Russian period is often marked with the maker's mark and the makers trade mark.

Hi zilverik -

the shown assay master´s mark is not in cyrillic but in Latin! It belongs to Jan Biedgunowski, on duty in Warzaw 1850-1865 - the city mark was the Imperial Eagle (often mistaken for Minsk)! I can not read the date but if it is 1861 it is perfect for Malcz as well as for Biedgunowski. You have all you need: Townmark, assayer+date, silver content acc. to the rules, a maker (K. Malcz) and as use in Warzaw, his trade mark (anchor). The quality is OK and the object is authentic. Do not be disappointed....

Hi Zolotnik,

Thank you very much!
Great! So that impuls to buy it was not that bad after all. Makes up for a some of my mistakes.
I don't know what you mean by your link to gerbovnik.ru. I can't read Russian. What should I see on that site?

Hi zilverik -
open the site, click on the alphabeth and try to find your crest, Russian and Polish nobels are rather similar. If it is a non-noble crest you are looking in vain.
Sometimes you have to work for yourself...

Hello Zilverik,
It appears to be for the LUBICZ or Любич family of Poland. Kind regards.
