Crest / heraldry mark on Georgian silver cruet stand

Postby user701 » Mon Jan 10, 2011 9:52 am

I recently purchased an early Georgian cruet / condiment stand and there is a family crest / heraldry mark on the stand.

I have tried to find who the crest is for, but so far unsuccessfully.

There is also a very short "motto" above the armorial "SPES"

Gaskell of Lancashire according to Fairbairn. The motto "Spes" means Hope.

Thank you very much agphile for solving the myster so quickly.

It is nice to know which family it was intended for.
