Probably the mark of Daniel James - see viewtopic.php?f=74&t=47351
Somewhat unusual for a "J " rather than an " I " to be used at this period, but not unknown .
Seen on a shoe buckle with the bobbled frame decoration fashionable in the 1765 to 1775 period
