Unknown Newcastle Silversmith Mark

Postby pilgrim3927 » Sat Jun 30, 2007 5:12 am

Who is this silversmith?
Date 1806-7
Newcastle
The Silversmith mark is: CR
DR

Theshield around it kind of fits neatly around the letters.
This is on a silver table spoon handed down.

Cheers and thanks to anyone who can help on this.

Could be Christian Reid & David Reid

Thanks Grangmaa but looked at the Newcastle page - not conclusive.
The second reply sounds feasible in that the two sons may have taken over the business from the father.

Hi Pilgrim,
The mark is most likely Christian Ker Reid & David Reid who used those initials, however, I don't believe they were using that mark as early as 1806.

If you'd like more conclusive answers, contribute images of your marks with your questions, without them, speculation is all that is possible.

Regards, Tom
