Silver Bodkin

Postby Granmaa » Tue Apr 17, 2007 11:18 am

Here is a 13.5cm silver bodkin with no marks. I'd very much like to know how old it is.
I think there is some writing on the lower half, but it's so worn I may never be able to decipher it.

Hello Miles.

Checked my books, but could not find much. These were being made as far back as the 17th century.
Did find a bodkin case in my books. Made by Samuel Pemberton, Birmingham, c.1800.
Found a few on line where the case was marked but the bodkin was not. These sites dated these sets as c.1800. Don't know if that's correct.

Regards,
Pat.

Thankyou Pat, it was sold to me as 17th century, but I'm not sure. I'll take it to an auction house and see if they know.

Miles
