scottish napkin ring- butterflies

Post by jo »

Just for interests sake I want to know the history about a napkin ring my grandmother gave me.
It is engraved with a beautiful butterfly design.

So far I have been able to use the website to work out it is from Edinburgh, Scottland circa 1881 but I can't seem to work out the maker's initials: J.C

I've found similar maker's marks but not this exact one.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

thanks, jo

Jo

The only JC from Edinburgh l can find is James Carmicheal, although that has a question mark, another thing is that mark is 1842, are you sure on the dates ?

Thanks Nigel
I'm pretty sure the date is right- it is definately a Z and the shape of the outline looks right. Will check out James Charmichael and see where that leads. Thanks :)
