Help on Markers Mark

Postby redrose » Sun Mar 04, 2007 1:10 pm

My mother-in-law knows I like to collect old things. She gave me a set of 6 pieces of silverware with beautiful etching and mother of pearl handles. You can view these pictures here -> Images

With the help of the English Hallmarks webpage I was able to make out the Crown and loin (Sheffield, England), having a little trouble with the date it looks like 1905.

I have been unsuccessful in finding out what J.A.S. stands for. This is right before the other markings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Am I right in thinking the silver mark is on the ferrule of silver directly next to the handle...if so, are there any markings on the knife blades or the stems of the forks/spoons? If not then they will be silver plated with silver ferrules by the handles.
Best wishes, Mike.

Not sure if you wanting the use of the pieces, but, frpom the left:-
jam spoon; butter knife; pickle fork; bread fork (for passing the slices of bread, not toasting); sugar sifter.
