Makers mark identification help please - C & A

Postby user701 » Sat Jul 18, 2015 12:22 pm

I am unsure of the makers mark C & A is for Corke & Apthorp or for Collett & Anderson

Item is a silver and tortoiseshell hatpin if that helps and is hallmarked for Birmingham, 1919

Another name to add to the possibilities would be Candelent & Adams, manufacturing jewellers of 121, Branston Street, Birmingham, working since before 1890 and at least to 1932.

I'm not sure either, but I will just point out that it's a London hallmark. As you got the date right it was probably a slip of the finger on our part.

Yeah, it was a mistake, I think I had Birmingham on the brain for some reason at the time of posting it!

Recheck your C& A. The only thing I can see with enlargement is a reversed C. At normal size this looks like a different letter poorly stamped, like Y or J etc.
