H.T&S 1925 Birmingham Sterling Silver .925 Pipe Cleaner

Postby atruin » Mon Apr 27, 2015 4:27 pm

Hello!

I'm looking for information pertaining to the maker of this pipe cleaner. The makers initials read "H.T&S"

I have attached a picture, but the quality is not very good. My apologies.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Mitchell

Hi Mitchell,

Welcome to the Forum.

We will need a clearer image of the marks if we are to help.

Trev,

Thanks for your reply. I have attached a new photo, but I'm still not certain if the quality is good enough. I don't have a good camera (or perhaps I don't know how to work it properly).

Hi Mitchell,

That appears to be the mark of the very old-established business of Hammond, Turner & Sons, noted at 99-101, Snow Hill, Birmingham, 130, Cheapside, London, and 17, Bread Street, Manchester.

Thought to have been established in 1717 as Hammond, Turner & Dickinson as button-makers. The firm's name was restyled to Hammond, Turner & Sons by 1818. The partners in 1830 were noted as James Turner, John Turner, William Hammond Turner and Samuel Hammond Turner.

Hammond, Turner & Sons appear to drop off the radar in the mid 1950's.

This is wonderful information! I can't thank you enough for providing such detailed information, despite my limited ability to provide a quality photo. Truly appreciated! Thank you!
