Dear all

This is a miniature/demitasse spoon measuring approx. 4 inches. I had previously attributed the mark to Lowe and sons but have some doubts looking at it again today as the star in the top quarter in thsi spoon is not obvious in the hallmark at http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Makers/Chester-F.html#FGLowe where there is probably a "F".

I found a relevant post on this forum at http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=3324&hilit=lowe but unfortunately there are no photographs to compare with.

I would appreciate some help pls

Hi,

Your posted image is reversed. It should appear as:

The mark was entered by George Frederick Lowe, trading as Lowe & Son, 11, Bridge Street Row, Chester, on the 26th October 1916.

The mark in your link to my site was F over C * L over L but, because of its poor condition, I had mis-read it as F over G * L over L. I have now corrected its location and consequently the link in your post no longer finds the mark. In fact I already had a better example of it:

As you will see this is clearly a different mark to the one on your spoon. This is because it is an earlier one, entered in 1912, which reflects the parnership of J Cecil Lowe (CL) and G F Lowe (FL). CL appears to have left the partnership at the time of registration of your mark (1916) because it is only in the name of George Frederick Lowe.
