Help With This Mark

Postby weebecnusoon » Mon Aug 22, 2011 3:44 am

I think that the first letters in the mark are something D on top and W.D. on the bottom...
This is a little intricate silver box.. totally in relief except for the bottom of the box which is flat.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

That appears to be the mark of John and William Deakin, trading as James Deakin & Sons, of the Sydney Works, Matilda Street, Sheffield. They first entered marks at Chester around 1888.

Wow Dognose, Do you have more information about that company or where I might find out more about it. I believe with it is is a vintage pomander.. a trinket like box with several small holes in the top. I think that they would put some kind of spices or flowers in the box and put it in the ladies panty drawer.. Heck I don't know. lol.. it is one of the most intricate, detailed boxes that I've ever seen.. either now or ever.. it is awesome. thank you so much.
