Thanks for the reply, it appears that James Smith a small worker entered his mark in 1877, his son took over as a smallworker in 1881 and then in 1904 the grandsons took over, the mark recorded is JS&Ss in three sizes.
Although the grandsons were called Thomas and Robert, they kept the name of the company as James Smith and sons, their business was Gold and Silver stick mounters operating from "exculsive" London addresses.
With all this information is it possible for this mark to be a missing mark? l am intrigued by this matter and look forward to any suggestions.
