London importer's mark

Hi,

Who could tell me about this importer of continental silver into the U.K?
The mark I.S, could this be for Isaac Specterman 1924-1926? The date letter K is for 1925.
Regarding the import mark ( upside down), it looks a bit different then the London import marks shown in my books, or is this only due to me?

The import mark does look slightly odd but is perhaps due to the way it was first struck?
As you say the date letter is for 1925-6.
Presumably your reference to a Specterman mark of 1924-6 comes from http://www.silvermarks.co.uk site where a mark with IS in a corner clipped rectangle and with a pellet is given as a probable attribution by the author. John Culme's book on London Smiths identifies Specterman having registered a similar mark in 1904 as a stick mounter but this mark is without the pellet and he gives no indication that the trade continued. Goldsmiths Hall London should be able to give you a definitive answer on the mark you have shown here.

Hello Mike,

Thank you very much. I checked the import mark with Jackson’s silver & gold marks, edited by Ian Pickford and noticed the import mark or ‘omega sign’ has been struck upside down from the start in 1906-1907 but in 1950-1951 the import mark was struck as a ‘omega’ sign.
