Hi Niceguy,

Very likely to be A. Murray of Perth, and yes, it should be silver.

Hello, with these provincial marks there is often not a lot to go on, but elsewhere on our site the "AM" with a "thistle" also has been suggested as the mark of Alexander Mollison. He was based at Aberdeen. Unfortunately we have not got a convenient version of "Aberdeen" stamped on with these marks, to indicate "made in Aberdeen".
The "silvermakersmarks" web site that most of us know well, has very recently been excellently upgraded to have a "Provincial Scotland" section (thank you Phil). It also suggests there that the marks shown by "Niceguy" are those of Alexander Mollison. We also know that there are a few other Scottish "AM" provincial silversmiths who no doubt had marks of their own that have not been "recorded" for public view.
