Maltese tablespoon marks help

Post by mk209 »

I know the maker Geraldo Pace and the Maltese cross but haven’t got reference to the other marks, can anybody tell me what the other marks are? It’s a really nice tablespoon in unworn condition.

Geraldo Pace was the Consul for Silversmiths between 1857-1863. His mark was a bird. This might explain the last mark. with a bit of distortion in the stamping. From 1857 a number was struck to indicate the year, starting not with a 57 but a 1. So the 6 would be for 1862.

Ah it’s a bird, I did wonder what it was but the punch was so small and hard to make out.

Many thanks Paul much appreciated.
