Provincial tablespoon but from where?

Hi

I am hoping somebody can help me identify the origin of this tablespoon. It has an AM punch flanked either side by a mark I am unable to decipher. It has a Scottish look about it, however it may be Irish or colonial, I would welcome any opinions.

Many Thanks
Martin

Hi Martin,

For what it's worth, a couple of guesses... My first thought was the style of marking possibly indicated Cape silver.

As a second guess, I've not knowingly seen his mark, but one to research would be Alexander Miller of Montrose, who marked on occasion, Rose - AM - Rose.

As said, just guesses.

Hi Trev

Thanks for the response, your guesses are certainly worth investigating further.

I wouldn't trust my own opinions, but they look like rubbed out crowns to me.

Hi

I can definitely see why the mark could be interpreted as a crown.
