Odd hallmarks: help, please

Postby fourmerk » Tue Aug 21, 2012 4:30 am

I have an old silver christening mug, handed down through family. The hallmarks are strange, only 3 but it is stamped "Sterling" and has the number 697. The hallmark has a galleon, HS in a shield and what looks like an animal's head: wild boar perhaps.

How do you take photos of hallmarks when the item itself is shiny?

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Your question cannot be answered without the required images.

How to Add Images

Posting Requirements

http://www.tinypic.com is recommended. Embedded images get a far greater response than just posting links.

Ensure you check your post by using the 'preview' button before submitting.

If you have problems with reflective light, I'm presuming you have turned the flash off, then place the object in the freezer for twenty minutes and it will mist up upon removal and have a matt finish.

Trev.
