Postby dognose » Sun Jun 26, 2011 5:15 pm

Hi,

Does anyone recognise this maker's mark?

'R.F.S' in one punch, then 'R', ?, 'F', mark resembling an animal skin, 'S'. Found on a ladle, 7" (18cm) in length.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Trev.

Checked my Australian, Canadian, Indian Colonial and Cape refences, but no luck.
Does seem familiar though.

Hi Pat,

Many thanks for checking your resources.

There is a slim chance that this may be a plated piece, it has the feel and flex of silver and the weight feels right. That, and the fact that the marks appear to be individually struck all point me in that direction, but I've yet to close the door on a plated possibility.

Regards Trev.
