Is this Carden Terry from cork
Is this Carden Terry from cork
Hi there..
Please could someone with a little more knowledge than me confirm my research that the piece is a from cork and made by Carden Terry...I presumed sterling would mean American silver but my research points to cork.
Also my research does not seem to show any other jugs marked with only CT which I’m presuming would be an earlier mark that the other piece is have found..
And lastly should I polish it or leave it blackened..
Thanks in advance it’s appreciated
Brian.

Re: Is this Carden Terry from cork
Hi Dognose..
That’s great to know I’m very pleased that it is...
Should I clean it??
It’s not been touched for a very long time found in the rafters of a local house...
with thanks

Re: Is this Carden Terry from cork
I have an identical cream jug to yours Brian. Perhaps Carden Terry made them as a pair.

Photobucket has pretty much killed millions of images all over the internet by stopping 3rd party hosting unless one pays $400 a year so my photos no longer appear in that thread. However, I'm using another hosting site for those below:

Hi Gordon...
A pair they appear to be and with identical placing of the hallmarks...I have not yet cleaned my example as it’s doing no harm in its original state...I wonder if they were made for the same family as mine does carry initials to one side..
Thanks for sharing too..

By the way, I seem to have given an incorrect link to the thread on my cream jug; it's actually:

Re: Is this Carden Terry from cork
Brian, could your cream jug be the one sold in New York in 2001?
Quote from my previous thread:
"Can anyone please point me in the direction of any other Carden Terry cream jugs of this period, i.e. circa 1775-1780? I know a major auction house sold one in New York in 2001, "the cream jug of baluster form on spreading circular foot with scroll handle and beaded rim. 8½in. (21.5cm.) long" - "marked Carden Terry, Cork, circa 1780", but the accompanying photo is no longer available."

Re: Is this Carden Terry from cork
Hi Gordon...
I believe the monograms are the same
As to when this jug sold I have to be honest and say it was purchased from a lady who found it in her house, she mentioned the eaves so I doubt it is the same jug but I do not have any provenance other than from when I purchased it a few months ago.I doubt it is the jug you are referring too but I cannot say for definite eitherway as the piece was left in the house after it was sold.
Maybe Carden Terry made a complete service for a client..
Cheers

Hi Brian,
Really interesting to see the two cream jugs with the same monograms. I wonder when over the past 240 years they got separated but we shall never know.
All the best,
Gordon

The joys of antiques Gordon....who used them,,,who owned them...if only they could talk...I love the piece but it’s not my field to be honest but it has a really nice feel in the hands...I will post a picture once I have polished it hopefully it has a beautiful colour like the one you own...
