Re: MK (Michael Keating) Spoon with strange engraving? Help Identification
MK is indeed Michael Keating. Your spoon was assayed in Dublin in the assay year 1799/1800 and the constituent parts of the hallmark are:
- MK: maker's mark
- Hibernia: duty mark (used until 1807 when, with the introduction of the monarch's head duty mark, it became the Dublin town mark)
- Crowned Harp: sterling silver standard mark
- C: date letter
The engraving on the top of the handle is a family armorial and is the symbol of the owner.
