Unusual crucifix with marking 'dag' I think?? Help please.

I was given a crucifix necklace by my grandfather just before he died a year or two ago. It doesn't have any signifigence as far as I'm aware apart from the obvious sentimental value. But I would like to know more or indeed anything about the maker or where it came from. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks for any time given to my query in advance.
