Two nice examples of the work of Joseph Gibson. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Joseph Gibson working period was 1784 until probably up to his death in 1820. His workshop was recorded as being located at 2, Grand Parade, Cork, at least for the period 1804 - 1817, although it may have been his place of work at lot earlier, as 'Richard Lucas's Directory of Cork-1787' gives only the address of Grand Parade and describes him as a Watch and Clockmaker. In 'A Directory, and Picture, of Cork and its Environs' by William West and published in 1810, he is described as a Jeweller.
Joseph married Catherine, the daughter of the Cork Silversmith John Nicolson, on the 3rd June 1788, and one may speculate perhaps, that it was maybe under John Nicolson that Joseph Gibson received his training.
Joseph Gibson registered his mark at the Dublin Assay Office in 1797.
