Sugar tongs possibly Dublin

Postby Onne » Mon Apr 13, 2009 5:37 pm

Hello all,

I am trying to identify my sugar tongs,
The item has unfortunately had a rather nasty repair.

Can you by any chance guide me in the right direction?
I think it might be a Dublin mark:

Apologies for the combining of the earlier thread... I'll learn one day!

Hi,

Yes, it's Dublin. Going by the cartouche shapes it would appear to assayed in the period 1793-1809. The lack of a Duty mark, unless it's under the repair, would put it as pre-1807, but I suspect it's the maker's mark thats under the repair.

I agree with dognose - definitely Dublin (from the style of the tongs), and dated between 1793 and 1807

Thank you.

I think that is as close as I'll ever get.
