Help with ID - Dundee Hallmark?

Post by cichociemny44 »

Dear All,

I have this apostle spoon with a strange hallmark... appears to be hallmarked twice with one hallmark, covering the other. Any thoughts? The first appears to say DUN-DEE. Any info will be appreciated.

It’s clear the marks have been overstamped like that to confuse and hide. Possibility of the ’dundee’ mark is James Mills, the ‘E’ looks a little like Edwin Millidge, Edinburgh (similar period). There also looks like a ‘WT’ punch has also been used?

Hard to get to the bottom of, needs a few hours with a magnifying glass!
