JE coin ladle Scottish?

Postby robert12 » Mon Aug 26, 2013 3:50 pm

Hi,
any ideas on the maker of this coin ladle?
Thought maybe Erskine but earlier than his active time,
but looks overstruck so any help appreciated.

Hi Robert,

Is it definitely 'JE'? It's difficult to determine from the image of the double struck mark and I wondered if was possibly 'JB' Is there any evidence of a pellet between the letters?

Datewise, I would draw no conclusions from the date on the coin, these ladles were often set with older coins.

Trev.

Hi Trev,
I have tried another pic.
No sign of a pellet between letters and still looks like JE.
Hope this is of help.
