Provincial seal-top spoon

Post by Granmaa »

Does anyone have an idea what this mark is? It's from a mid-17th century seal-top spoon.

Hi Miles,

By what method is the finial connected to the stem, V-joint or Lap joint?

Trev.

It's a lap-joint, Trev. So probably a provincial spoon.

It seems very likely to me now that the mark is an upside down York mark (half fleur-de-lis and half leopard's head) but the left half is a bit messy and incomplete in places. Might this be a sign of a cast forgery, or am I worrying myself over nothing? After-all, every other detail points to its authenticity.
