Teapot, Jug, SugarBowl, marked 'RWB' 'CROWN' 'LION' 'P'

Postby mattodonnell » Sat May 05, 2007 10:55 am

On the base of each item is
"REPRODUCTION 1780
28202r
HARRODS LONDON SW"
and is hallmarked with the sheffield lion, and crown, and an italic P
prior to the lion is an italic R W B set in a triangluar shape,

I don't know how to upload the photos on this message board, but I have a 5 which show lots of detail. Can anyone help me upload these photos?

Any ideas on what the marks means is very helpful and appreciated
thankyou
Matt

oh, and they all came with a silver tray which does not have any identifying marks at all.

Sterling silver, Sheffield, 1932. Don't know the maker, but assume someone else will

Whilst I do not know who RWB is, I have items with this mark assayed in London and have seen pieces dating around the period 1930's - 1960's with this mark, all retailed by Harrods. Auction catalogues and silver retailer descriptions have not given a makers name. Maybe contact with Harrods will supply information.

Just came across this old post.

RWB is Richard Woodman Burbidge, who was the managing director and chairman of Harrods who died in 1945. The store used his initials as a sponser's mark.
