Am I reading this Sheffield mark correctly?

Post by AllSeasons »

Hello, I just won these items at an online auction. These are the very first British items that I have ever owned (or will own very soon). That said, I'm not that familiar with British marks. Based on my research with this site's hallmark library, I feel like I can reasonably ascertain that these items are Sheffield 1896, but not entirely sure. Can someone more experienced please take a look and help put my mind at ease? In any case, really glad to own my first British sterling pieces! Thanks in advance.

Also, does anyone know of the maker signed A.C. here?

1896 is correct - to be strictly accurate it's 1896/97 as the assay year did not start in January - for Sheffield the date letter changed on the first Monday in July. AC is Alexander Clark.
