As regards the form, is this a "bonbon dish" or a "sweetmeat dish" - I really can't tell the difference, I have seen similarly-shaped dishes described as both a "bonbon dish" and a "sweetmeat dish" - of course you could use it for anything now, but at the time each piece of silver had a very specific purpose :::

I think mostly this specific one has been used to hold chocolates :) I haven't the faintest idea about the purpose.

Thanks for the info about the date of manufacture (assuming this is authentic).
