Hello hallmark heroes and heroines,

Here we have a tea caddy spoon with the lion passant, the head of a king, a maker's mark "GE & Co." and a crown over N mark.

I have not been able to figure out this spoon. If there is no leopard, was it made in London?
If the "N with the crown over it" mark is a date mark, I haven't been able to find this symbol in any date letter chart.

All help would be much appreciated

Great find!

Not London, but Sheffield. The maker is George Eadon, George Kibbles & John Weaver. The year of assay was 1800.

I don't recall seeing anything by that maker before.

I did suspect that it was Sheffield, so this thread should be moved over into the Sheffield sub-forum,
but I still don't understand why this piece lacks the town mark for Sheffield.

Everything makes sense except the lack of the Sheffield town mark, so I was confused.

The Sheffield town mark is there, it's incorporated into the date letter to save space on smaller items.

I did find the name George Eadon & Co. from a few auction houses that had very large pieces on display.

If this is the first one you have ever seen, it must be rare indeed!!!
