Letter Opener

Postby fripou » Fri Feb 10, 2006 12:18 pm

Hello

I bought a letter opener, with a silver handle, with very fine lines as a decoration :

Can you please tell me what this pattern is called?

It is hallmarked for Birmingham, but I am not sure of the year : is the "c" capital or not ? is it 1902 or 1927 ? how can you make the difference?

Can you please also tell me who the silvermth was, and more about him ? His mark is T H & S or T B & S in a shield.

Here are the hallmarks on each side of the handle :

Thanks a lot in advance

Best regards from Paris

The curl at the top of the 'C' would suggest it is 1902-3 but I am not acquainted with the maker. Best wishes, Mike.

The most likely maker for your paper knife is Thomas Bradbury & Sons Ltd. They were silversmiths registered at 22 and 24 Arundel Street Sheffield 1.
