Marks on Family Silver

Postby Eric123 » Fri Jan 07, 2011 8:16 pm

From family estate, believe this to be G&H Sheffield 1773. Attached are marks and style of one piece from set. Any help would be appreciated.

They are not 1773 but 1993,the 1773 date letter was used in 1993 to commemorate the Sheffield assay office bicentenary.

The maker is Gee & Holmes (makers of flatware)

The fork shown in the photos in is the Kings pattern.

I make it 1973 not 1993, which would have the Rose as a mark, not the crown as shown.

Hi,

Yes, 1973, that was a typo by user701 (I'm glad I'm not the only one!).

Although the date letter itself is the same, the cartouche for 1773 has a different outline than 1973.

Sorry about the typo, I did mean 1973

The rose mark was used from 1975, the crown was in use in 1973

Thanks all, your information corresponds with family thoughts. The only date mark when searching we could find appeared to be 1773, we did not see one for 1993. Great help...Eric
