Does anybody know the maker small silver nut cups?

Postby jshrifter » Wed Dec 23, 2009 4:17 pm

Can anybody identify the maker and when these small silver nut cups were made? I recently purchased them in Montreal, Canada.

Thank you very much and Happy Holidays!

Hello and welcome to the forum.
The dishes are of an older style but assayed in Sheffield in 1982.
Currently a fair number of views of your question have been made and there is the suspicion that identification of the LJB mark is causing a problem in replying. This is because, as far as I know, there is no publication available for members of the forum to research modern marks to identify it for you
The Assay Office can be contacted direct at http://www.assayoffice.co.uk clicking on the Library and Silver Collection section to see how to ask for identification of a mark. There is however a charge for that service.
If you do contact the Assay Office and discover a name for the mark would you please share it with us.

Silver nut cups

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. It is greatly appreciated.

I am saddened that the cups are not older. It was insinuated that they were, but I am not familiar with the marks to be able to tell.

They are pretty, (admin edit - see Posting Requirements)

If I'm not mistaken, the lion mark means that the cup is sterling. Can anybody decipher the other marks for me or point me to resources?

Thank you very much and Happy Holidays.

There is interpretation guidance in the forum's British Hallmarks section.
http://www.925-1000.com/british_marks.html
The rose symbol replaced the crown as the Sheffield town mark in 1975.
The letter H is for 1982 in a sequence beginning in 1975.There are publications available to cover all of the date letter series to the present day.
Thank you for your good wishes.
Happy Christmas.
Mike
