Hi Alain,

That would be Charles James Allen and Sidney Darwin. Portland Works, Arundel Street, Sheffield. S1.

Hi Trev,

No wonder i couldn't find the makers mark.I was looking at the Sheffield Assay Office ...
They put there Makers' Marks at the London Assay Office .
The tongs are hallmarked for Sheffield, but they put the makers mark at the London assay office?

Was that a common thing to do ?

greetings,

Alain

Hi Alain,
Allen & Darwin were registered in both London & Sheffield. Larger manufacturers were often registered with more than one assay office. Now that you have contributed their mark it will appear in both the London and Sheffield sections of this site.
Regards, Tom
