fruit service?

Postby jh1062 » Tue Dec 04, 2007 10:43 pm

my great aunt passed away recently, and we're trying to identify a few items that we found in storage.

we think the items shown are a fruit service... marks seem to indicate Sheffield 1894, but I don't see any info on the "A&D"

any help would be appreciated...

Jim

Hello JH-

Looks like the "h" for 1900 to me, what do you think?

The mark looks like a "b" for 1894 to me and I believe the maker is Allen and Darwin

Gentlemen,

I'm confident that the letter is a "b" for 1894.

Starting from the Allen and Darwin clue, I did some more searching and found photos of an A&D service from 1904 that, although its less ornate and does not include the spoons, is similar enough to settle the question for me.

Thanks for your help.

Jim
