Another Mercy Ashworth mark

Post by mk209 »

I’ve seen the pellet mark and almost joined MA but is this one a registered known mark? It’s an OE teaspoon and I would be interested in a rough date.

Hi Matt,

Yes, it is known. That mark was registered with the Newcastle office on the 28th July 1792. Her last submissions for assay occurred on the 1st May 1801.

For the period of Mercy Ashworth's working life that form of the duty mark was in use from 1792 to 1797.

Thankyou both Trev and Phil! I wish I had reference material here but maybe at some point I can get some books posted to Finland.
